Villa Balbianello

Villa Balbianello is about five minutes walk from our hotel. Going back up the headland of Lavedo it is possible to reach this attraction, famous for its gardens and its artworks.

Villa Balbianello was built at the end of the 18th century over a pre-existing Franciscan monastery. The last owner, the explorer Guido Monzino (1928-1988), brougth to the villa a rich collection of Chinese, African and Pre-Colombian artworks and also precious 17th century furniture from England and France. The villa also hosts a small museum that has documents and heirlooms from Monzino’s expeditions. After his death the villa was donated to FAI (Italian Foundation for Enviroment).

Today the main attraction of the Villa Balbianello is the terrace garden, dominated by the elegant loggia rising from the highest point of the villa.
